About DAKTARI
We are a South African NGO founded in 2006 near Hoedspruit.
Our mission: to educate local children about environmental protection and raise awareness in rural communities about wildlife conservation.
Every week, we welcome students from local schools for an immersive educational experience in the heart of the bush.

As a volunteer at DAKTARI, you will take part in a comprehensive program that combines environmental education, animal care, and community engagement.
1. Teaching & Activities with the Children
- Teach interactive lessons about wildlife, plants, poaching, conservation, and environmental issues
- Lead debates on social topics and motivate children to become responsible citizens
- Create moments of connection: games, swimming, dancing around the fire, and cultural exchanges!
- Take care of the animals at the camp (injured or orphaned) that cannot be released back into the wild
- Participate in their feeding and daily well-being
- Help children develop compassion and respect for all living beings
- Take part in the ECO CLUB held in local schools twice a week
- Support children in deepening their environmental knowledge and taking action within their community
