Digital Marketing & Media Program — Art in Tanzania

Your content won't just fill a feed. It will reach 50,000 people — and tell stories that matter.

In a world saturated with digital noise, the ability to create content that genuinely connects — that educates, advocates, and moves people to act — is one of the most valuable skills a marketer or media professional can develop. At Art in Tanzania, that skill gets a real workout.

You will manage live channels, produce creative media, and contribute to campaigns that promote community development across one of Africa's fastest-growing economies. This is not a practice run. The audience is real, the work is live, and the impact is measurable.

About the Program

Since 1996, Art in Tanzania has placed approximately 250 participants annually in hands-on community programmes across Tanzania. Our Digital Marketing & Media Department sits at the centre of how we communicate our mission — to universities, private sector partners, communities, and the broader public.

This programme is built for students who want to do real digital marketing and media work, in a context that challenges and stretches them in ways a conventional internship simply cannot.

What You'll Work On

Your placement is tailored to your background and skills. The programme spans a wide and creative range of disciplines:

📱 Social Media Management Run and grow Art in Tanzania's social media presence — including a Facebook audience of over 50,000 followers — with content that informs, engages, and advocates. You will create posts, manage scheduling, analyse performance, and develop strategies to reach target audiences in universities and the private sector.

🌐 Web & Blog Content Write, edit, and publish content for our website and blog — covering community programmes, participant stories, safari and tour offerings, and broader development themes. SEO awareness and clarity of voice are as important here as they are in creative writing.

🎬 Film, Arts & Creative Media Produce video content, short films, and arts-based media using innovative African creative tools and approaches. This program is an immersive, hands-on element of the programme — one that offers a genuinely different creative experience for students used to working in Western media environments.

📰 Journalism & Creative Writing Report on community activities, programme outcomes, and field experiences through journalistic writing and storytelling. Your work will contribute to Art in Tanzania's visibility and advocacy across digital platforms.

📣 Advocacy & Visibility Campaigns: Develop and execute digital campaigns that highlight our community programmes, raise awareness on development issues, and grow our reach among key audiences — including prospective participants, partner universities, and corporate stakeholders.

🎓 Orientation, Training & Academic Tutoring Contribute to in-country orientation and training for incoming participants, and support academic tutoring activities — sharing your skills with both the team and fellow interns.

Structure & Supervision

Academic-level team leaders supervise your daily work, and a weekly planning and reporting system keeps your placement structured, purposeful, and aligned with your study programme. Progress is monitored consistently to ensure your time here delivers real academic and professional value.

The internship outcome is concrete: you will leave with hands-on experience applying digital marketing and media skills in a developing-country context — where creativity, adaptability, and resourcefulness are non-negotiable — and a genuine understanding of the opportunities in one of Africa's most dynamic economies.

How It Works

Hours: 6–8 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Start date: Flexible — the programme runs continuously year-round. Duration: Adjustable to your academic schedule and goals. Group size: 15–40 international students at any time, drawn from 400+ partner universities worldwide

Your placement is tailored to your background, experience, and creative interests. Digital marketing, communications, journalism, film, graphic design, media studies, public relations, and related fields are all excellent fits.

Life in Tanzania

Beyond your placement, Tanzania offers an experience that fuels creativity as much as it builds skills. Vibrant local culture, iconic landscapes, extraordinary wildlife, and a media environment genuinely unlike anything in Europe or North America — all of it becomes part of your daily context.

Affordable, sustainable safaris and tours are available for you and visiting friends or family.

Funding

Erasmus+ funding may be available for this placement. Speak with your student office about grant options that could fully or partially fund this experience.
