Youth Football Academy Program — Art in Tanzania
Tanzania has football talent. What it needs is coaching, resources, and support to develop.
Football is Tanzania's national sport — played in every village, followed with passion, and capable of transforming the lives of young players who get the right support at the right time. The talent exists. The drive exists. What has been missing is a structured, well-resourced pathway from the village pitch to professional development.
Art in Tanzania, in partnership with two specialist football organisations, is building that pathway. And we need coaches, sports professionals, and health-minded interns to help make it happen.
About the Program
Since 1996, Art in Tanzania has placed approximately 250 participants annually in hands-on community programmes across Tanzania. Our Youth Football Academy Program is a partnership-driven initiative focused on talent identification, player development, coaching capacity, and holistic athlete health — for both girls and boys.
The programme operates in collaboration with two dedicated partners:
Briessfull Stars Organisation — a Tanzanian organisation comprising retired top Tanzanian football professionals, bringing deep local knowledge, credibility, and networks to the programme.
7Elity Academy (Utah, USA) — an internationally connected football academy with branches in the UK and South Africa, and established links to top-tier professional football clubs worldwide. Their involvement connects Tanzanian youth talent to a global development pathway.
Together, this partnership creates something genuinely rare: a community-level football development programme with both local roots and international reach.
What You'll Do
Your placement is tailored to your background, experience, and the specific needs of the academy and community programmes you support. Work spans several interconnected areas:
⚽ Coaching & Technical Training Lead and assist with football coaching sessions — working on technical skills, tactical understanding, and physical development for young players at different stages of their development. Both individual skill work and team-based training are part of the programme.
🏃 Physical Conditioning & Ball Training Support structured physical training programmes designed to develop the athletic foundations — speed, strength, endurance, and coordination — that young players need to progress to competitive and professional levels.
🥗 Nutrition & Health Education Promote good nutrition, hygiene, and broader public health practices among young players — helping them understand that athletic development is as much about what happens off the pitch as on it. This task is particularly impactful in communities where awareness of sports nutrition is limited.
🏫 Village & School Sports Support sports activities in local villages and schools — broadening participation, identifying emerging talent, and bringing the energy and structure of the academy programme to community-level sport.
📱 Visibility & Social Media Document training sessions, player development stories, and programme activities for Art in Tanzania's social media channels — reaching an audience of over 50,000 Facebook followers and helping build the programme's profile locally and internationally.

The Opportunity
Tanzania produces football talent. Less developed is the infrastructure to nurture it — quality coaching, physical conditioning, nutritional support, and connections to higher-level academies and clubs. Interns and volunteers who bring these capabilities are not filling a peripheral role. They are central to what this programme is trying to build.
For sports science students, coaches, physiotherapists, nutritionists, and public health professionals interested in sport, this placement offers a meaningful way to apply your expertise in a high-impact, high-energy environment.
How It Works
Hours: 6–8 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Start date: Flexible — the programme runs continuously year-round. Duration: Adjustable to your academic schedule and goals. Group size: 15–40 international students at any time, drawn from 400+ partner universities worldwide
Your placement is tailored to your background and interests. Sports science, football coaching, physical education, sports nutrition, physiotherapy, public health, and sports management are all well-suited to this programme.
Life in Tanzania
Football here is not just a sport — it is a cultural heartbeat. Being part of the game in Tanzania, at the village and academy level, gives you a connection to local life that few placements can match. Beyond the pitch, Tanzania's landscapes, wildlife, and culture are extraordinary. Affordable, sustainable safaris and tours are available for you and visiting friends or family.
